Calls, video and screen sharing go directly between the people on the call wherever possible. Nothing passes through us, which is why quality is uncapped on a direct connection.
Some networks will not allow a direct connection. Strict company or school firewalls, some mobile networks, and most VPNs will block it. When that happens we fall back to relay servers, which we pay for, and that is the one place your plan changes what you get. Relayed video runs at 720p on the free plan and 1080p for Supporters. Each account also has a relay allowance: 100 GB in any 30 days on the free plan, 300 GB for Supporters. If you use it up, calls that need a relay will not connect until your usage falls back inside the window. Voice is never capped on any plan, direct connections are never capped on any plan, and most calls never touch a relay at all.
The same design has a second consequence worth knowing before you pay us anything. Because everyone connects to everyone, your upload is shared between the people receiving your stream, so Eaves is built for small groups, roughly 10 to 20 people in a call. Paying does not raise that ceiling today, on any plan. If you need to broadcast to a hundred people, we are the wrong tool.
Payments are processed by Stripe. The Supporter plan is a subscription that renews automatically, monthly or annually, until you cancel it.
Cancellation. You can cancel at any time through the Stripe Customer Portal, which you reach from the same in-app billing screen where you subscribed. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the billing period you have already paid for, and your perks continue until then.
Refunds. We do not give partial-period refunds, except where the law requires it. Credits are store credit: they never expire, but they are not refundable and cannot be cashed out.
Price changes are announced before they take effect, and you can cancel before an increase is charged to you. Full detail is in Section 11 of the Terms of Service.
Nothing is deleted for cancelling. If you are using more pinned storage than the free 3 GB when your plan ends, the pins over that cap freeze: they stay readable and downloadable, and we offer you an export, but they cannot be added to. That grace period lasts about a year, and resubscribing unfreezes them immediately. After the grace period they go back to normal file expiry.
Separately, and regardless of plan: messages and files expire on a schedule the owner of each server picks, 30 days by default. Pinning is how you keep something past that. Keep your own copies of anything that matters.
Plans for bigger communities, and a white-label version for businesses that want to run Eaves under their own name for their own clients, are in development. If either sounds useful, email us and we will talk it through.
